The better view of the animals cannot be obtained anywhere else than the lush green wildlife sanctuaries in South India. More than 500 species of animals, 1600 types of reptiles and amphibians, about 57,000 species of insects and 1225 species of birds are conserved in the South India wildlife sanctuaries.
The animals that can be frequently spotted in the southern region include Antelopes, Sambhar, Tigers, Leopards, Deers, Bison and Elephants. Crested Serpent Eagle, Malabar Pied Hornbill and Malabar Trogon are among the prominent species of birds found in the region. The renowned sanctuaries of South India are Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary, Nagarhole National Park, Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, etc.
