TA rhinoceros, most commonly known as a rhino, is a specie belonging to the odd-toed ungulates, in the Rhinocerotidae family. All the species of rhinos are easily able to attain a weight of about a ton, which makes them one of the largest species out there. There are actually several types of rhinos including the white rhinoceros, the Sumatran rhinoceros, the Indian rhinoceros and the Javan rhinoceros. Each of them have some distinct characteristics, which make them all the more fascinating. While Sumatran and Javan rhinos have two horns, the Indian rhinos are known to have a single one.

Places they are found in :

These rhinos can be found in several places including Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, near Guwahati, with over eighty rhinos. Another place to find rhinos in abundance is the Jaldapara National Park, in West Bengal, with more than a hundred rhinos. Orang National Park and Manas National Park in Assam has about sixty-eight one horned rhinos. The best time to be able to spot these rhinos in India is from November to December mid, as the weather is pleasant.

Today the rhinos are highly endangered due to humans hunting them, especially for their horns, which are then sold in the black market. They can cost as high as good, and are ground up and consumed by people who believe that these ground horns have therapeutic properties.
